The true patagonia weather & experience is now fully upon us. The wind is GNARLY! I swear it would blow a small child away. We lucked out and went in together on a small apartment with 2 other american climbers I met in Ouray several years back. It´s great to have our own kitchen for cooking in, own bathroom with shower that also serves as our laundry room. It´s pretty amusing to see grown men on their knees scrubbing their capiline on the shower floor! Our casita is in the industrial part of town near the diesel generators and next door to one of the burlesque clubs, but it also has probably the finest view in all of town out the kitchen window of Fitzroy, Poincenot, and Cerro Torre. I am so happy not to be sitting in my tent when the jet engine-strength gusts come tearing by shuddering the whole house.
We have now resigned ourselves to lots of reading, cooking, eating, and exploring the bouldering and sport climbing that is somewhat protected from the wind in the surrounding forest-the real patagonia.
